QYT - Youth Theatre
We have run youth groups for over 50 years, and we now have QYT - Questors Youth Theatre - a range of groups for all ages from 6 to 17.
These groups are arranged according to age and school year-group, and meet weekly during school term-time. These sessions give children and teenagers opportunities to explore their creativity and enhance their powers of self-expression, working largely through improvisation and role-playing exercises, augmented with some text and script work.
6-10 year olds
For younger groups, age 6-10 years (school years 1-6), the emphasis is on imaginative play and role-playing to develop a source of make-believe for children.
Classes for these age groups run on Saturday mornings for an hour’s duration.
11-16 year olds
For children and teenagers aged 11-16 (school years 7-12), the sessions emphasise role-playing improvisations and acting exercises which provide opportunities to enhance and develop drama skills. These are not training in “acting”; instead they provide a foundation in theatre skills.
Classes are held on weekday evenings after school, some for one hour, others for one and a half hours’ duration. However the classes for the oldest age group (Year 12), are held on Sunday morning and last for two and a half hours.
Fees
The fee for 2010 - 2011 for all the classes is £75 per term. However if you pay in advance, the fees are only £130 for two terms or £185 for three terms, payable prior to the commencement of the course. There is a concessionary fee of £49 for those in receipt of benefits. Please contact the Theatre Office on 020 8567 0011 during weekdays for further details. Group 12 fees are £90 per term, £160 for 2 terms and £230 for 3 terms. The concessionary fee is £59.
Terms
A term usually runs for 11 weeks - however during 2010 -11 the three terms will vary in length slightly. At the end of the year, in July, all the groups stage a showcase in the Studio theatre. This is a chance for family and friends to see QYT members' ideas in an informal setting.
Students who wish to continue for another year will automatically progress to the next class, which may be on a different day of the week and at a different time.
Membership benefits
All QYT members are entitled to the same benefits of membership as Questors Company Members and are also eligible for a FREE ticket to all shows (except the Christmas production).
In 2010 QYT presented The Pierglass by Tim Norton in the Playhouse Theatre and also contributed many actors to A Christmas Carol which was the 2009 Christmas Show and many of our students will be participating in Beauty and the Beast which is the forthcoming family show this Christmas. The Questors Youth Theatre also runs additional technical workshops in the Easter holidays and there will be a Questors Youth Festival in July 2011. Further details will be announced next year.
There are also opportunities for for over-16s to be involved helping backstage on Questors productions.
