Questors Youth Theatre present
The Pierglass
by Tim Norton
Witty melodrama and beautiful love story
It’s 1865. An extravagant theatrical troupe has arrived in the small town of Porchester... to very mixed reactions from the locals. Meanwhile in nearby Bratton Hall a young heiress is being mistreated by her stepmother and her evil solicitor, who are plotting to steal her inheritance. Romantic and dramatic complications develop in the lives of the theatre company and the townspeople.
Charlotte, the young girl at the heart of our story, is forbidden from living her own life so lives it instead through books and the plays of Shakespeare. Fortuitously, a group of travelling players arrive in her town and provide an opportunity for her to escape the prison in which her Stepmother and deceitful Lawyer keep her. Ralph, the young actor faced with the prospect of playing Romeo without ever having experienced love himself, is desperately seeking his Juliet. Around them, the theatricals cause ripples amongst this sleepy community, Charlotte’s maids try to help her and the locals have secrets of their own to reveal which will have a significant effect! Parallels between the Shakespeare plays and real events in the lives of the characters highlight truths hidden beneath the surface.
Written specifically for young actors, The Pierglass is a wonderfully witty melodrama with many Shakespearean references to spot and a beautiful love story to swoon over. Let our Youth Theatre entertain you!
